Jam with The Huckleberry Friends at NTU Fest

Although The Huckleberry Friends were only formed in 2012, they already have numerous public performances under their belt. From NTU’s The Quad to live music restaurant-cum-bar Timbre, there is seemingly no place this up-and-coming acoustic/folk rock trio hasn’t played.

To begin with, the band had an impressive early start: frontman and Art, Design & Media student Jonathan Chan won The New Paper LOUD Cover Contest in June 2012 for his soulful rendition of Jason Mraz’s A Beautiful Mess. Additionally, the band’s YouTube videos of covers and mash-ups average about 5,000 views each, with their acoustic cover of John Mayer’s I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You) racking up more than 10,000 views since September 14, 2012.

With their soothing three-part vocal harmonies, burgeoning YouTube fan base and preference for grassy terrain or cosy rooms, the trio share some similarities with fellow NTU-related music group, The Sam Willows. Will The Huckleberry Friends play at the SXSW festival someday, too?

Regardless, the next phase in The Huckleberry Friends’ career-hobby is here: performing at the inaugural NTU Fest this Saturday, 16 August. If you enjoy pop, alternative rock, rhythm & blues and acoustic folk, be sure to catch their live performance that day at The Padang.
