Existing Efforts

Inspired by the “1600 Pandas World Tour” exhibition by the World Wide Fund for Nature, local arts collective ArtSemble collaborated with The Malaysian Nature Society, UEM Sunrise, Perhilitan and CIMB for the the Malayan Tapir Awareness Campaign exhibition. In conjunction with the World Tapir Day on April 27, 3000 miniature clay Tapirs have been exhibited at Publika Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur from 18th April to 8th May 2016. According to Artsemble’s co-founder, the 3000 miniature clay Tapirs were all done by children in primary school, art classes and kindergarten in partnership with the Tapi Tapir Project. Activities such as Tapir clay art making, origami and children story telling session were also included. All earnings of products that were sold during the event have been donated to the Malaysian Nature Society’s to raise awareness. This serves as a very creative way to spread information to the public about Malayan Tapirs.

There are also Tapir Specialist Groups which devotes in researching projects on tapirs. They also serve the purpose of maintaining communication with the government, universities and zoos to raise greater awareness of Tapirs and also in the way of conservation planning.

The Malayan Tapirs need more help in our communities. If you are interested in visiting the real habitat of the Malayan Tapir or are interested in lending a helping hand to Tapirs, you can volunteer, you could join the rain forest conservation project here. You can contribute to the communities by volunteering in parks or zoos.

Also, you could get active and spread the words in your community. It’s not only just Tapirs alone but also every other single endangered animals that need your help. Looking at the big picture is the first step towards a better future for the animals as well as for us.

Last but not least, we can always do our part by simply just caring for our environment. We can help to decrease the amount of deforestation by getting sustainable palm oil, a simple yet efficient and effective step. Be more conscious of the dangers that these animals face and be respectful towards them. As the saying goes, “Save it to cherish or leave it to perish, let’s take a stand to save the tapirs!
