Common Pets and Banned Pets

1. Dogs 

One of the most common household pet. Housing Development Boards (HDB) permit only one dog in HDB flats and the breeds are limited to the Housing Board’s list of 62 permitted breed.

For a mixed breed, the maximum weight is 15kg and shoulder height up to 50cm (However, under the Project SoSD and ADORE, it is possible to adopt a local mongrel). Dogs living in HDB flats for at least 3 months need to be licensed at AVA.

If any of these rules are violated, it can cause the individual to face a fine up to S$4,000.

2. Cats

Cats are prohibited in HDB flats because they can pose health and hygiene risks since felines roam on their own.

Only certain HDB blocks allow felines (Under the Love Cats scheme).

3. Small pets

Examples include birds, chinchillas, fish, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, rabbits, mice, some turtles and terrapins, green tree frogs, land hermit crabs.
