Welcome to my Blog, humans!
I am Jade and if you are curious, my full, registered name is Jade Ariadne Lopez Rivera. That’s a super long name right? Well, that’s just a stereotypical long Filipino name you see! I moved here in Singapore when I was 3 years old. And super fun fact about me, I can “switch off” my accent when I am speaking to locals but somehow, it automatically switches back on the moment there’s a Filipino around, even when they don’t speak the language. I don’t know why, I’ve yet to figure it out myself!
I am a Year 3 student specializing in Sports Science! And if you are wondering why I am in this Psychology course, it’s because I do intend to minor in it! As of now, my life is being consumed with a lot of Floorball! I play for the school and an external team and I am glad and willing to do it before my body breaks down when I am much older!
In relation to my blog topic, on Asian Elephants in Thailand, I decided to write about this due to my planned trip this coming summer to Thailand! I did research on the activities we would do and came across elephant riding. It isn’t obvious, but I actually do watch a lot of documentaries and TV shows, which showed animal sanctuaries. Particularly, not long after searching on activities to do, I watched a National Geographic Video on ivory trading in China which caused for the population number of elephants to fall. I also remembered watching a documentary called “An elephant never forgets”, which uncovered the truth to elephant obedience. This got me thinking on the conservation issue on elephants, particularly in SEA, and probably the inhumane acts done on them to elicit a favourable behaviour and response, especially for tourism.
