Many products we use in our daily lives, such as cosmetics, bath products and consist of palm oil. In order to grow palm trees, vast tracks of native forest in Sumatra, that are home to many animals including tigers are destroyed. Hence, you can show support and choose only products of companies that pledged to using sustainable harvested palm oil, so as to prevent other companies from producing more products that harm the animals. You can identify the products that use sustainable harvested palm oil with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) or the Green Palm label.

The RSPO has come up with a set of criteria which companies must comply to in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). These criteria help to minimise the negative impact palm oil plantation have on the animals and their habitats (RSPO, 2017). RSPO ensures that the companies have committed to only produce and use sustainable palm oil certified by them.

Furthermore, many products such as tissue papers and furniture are made from wood from large trees. Since, it is impossible to stop the cutting down of trees for human use, the best solution to  reduce deforestation and minimising the impact on tigers will be to support companies that practice responsible forest management. Therefore, choose only paper and wood products with Forest Stewardship Council certificate, and with a high percentage of post-consumer recycled content.

When the demand decreases, the supply decreases as well. Thus, when the demand of tigers and tiger parts decline, the poaching will eventually come to a halt. This is a solution, that will directly resolve the declining of Sumatran tigers due to illegal poaching and trading.
