Farms.

1. Upgrading technology

Farms can tap onto funds from government bodies to upgrade and innovate technology. In Singapore, the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING) is invested in helping enterprises fund their innovations and relevant research that help advance their operational processes. One example of upgrading technology is the adoption of solar driers, which are structures created to dry cocoa beans to remove excess moisture. This effective drying method prevents spoilage and allows for an increased proportion of beans to be fit for sale.

2. IMPROVING DISTRIBUTION PACKAGING

To ensure that food delivered to manufacturers are fresh and remain of high quality, farms can package and distribute their food in new and improved ways that will protect the produce.

3. MINIMIZING WASTE ON THE FIELD

Small farms should partner with manufacturers or distributors to ensure timely collection of crops and reduce unharvested food. Additionally, farms should also source for more buyers once they figure that they are going to have an excess of food supply.
