Most produce in Singapore are imported from all over the world. This means travelling great distances to get to our shores. During this travel, food that spoils easily are susceptible to loss. This is especially so if food is coming from developing countries due to the lack of proper storage and refrigeration. Food spoils faster when temperature is erratic and unsuitable or when left in storage for too long. Even if these goods eventually reach distributors, they already have reduced shelf lives and may be thrown away soon after.
