So Why Save Rhinos?

There are various reasons of why Rhinos needs to be save! Here are some:

Rhinos can be recognise as contributors to the maintenance of local ecological system, as they graze on short grass, controlling the wide spread of this particular plant species (Nuwer, 2014). This enables other plant species to grow within the same area, allowing other animals that feeds on alternative plant species to survive (University of Washington, 2014).

They also trimmed areas by feeding on plants and open up paths by forcing through thick scrub and forest like a tank, so areas would be more accessible for smaller mammals (OSCAP, 2016). Moreover, they fertilize soil through their excrement. In addition, their dung also allow plants to spread from places to places (Wardlow, 2014)(OSCAP, 2016).

Rhinos also engage in wallowing in the natural environment, and this wallowing creates breeding sites for other smaller living beings such as frogs, insects and other invertebrates. Thus, a lack in Rhinos affects the life cycles of all this other living beings as they lack of suitable conditions to undergo breeding (OSCAP, 2016).

Thus, one should now be able to understand that the loss of such a species could result in an imbalance within the ecological systems affecting other plants, animal and other living species’ way of life adversely.

In addition, when Rhinos are extinct, there are lesser food sources for predators such as Lions. This means that the predators will then prey on other animals species more frequently, which could result in the faster depletion of other animal species, thus affecting yet another part of the local ecological system (University of Washington, 2014). Thus, it is essential for Rhinos to flourish so as to increase the variety of food source for their predators, which would contribute to a better balance in ecology.

So, up till now i have mentioned primarily about impact on the ecological system, it is now time to talk about how it affects humans.

Tourism which rely heavily on wild animals could also be threaten if Rhinos become extinct, as tourists experiences a lost of interest leading to lowered intentions for visitations to this areas. This in turn affects the daily livelihood of tour guides, drivers, natural parks employees, restaurant employees, souvenir shop employees and more (Wardlow, 2014).

Lastly, it would be a pity that the Javan Rhinos become extinct before our future generations even come to existence! Wouldn’t it be a sad think to tell your grand children or great grand children that there was once the magnificent Javan Rhinos who eventually died out due to humans’ carelessness and callousness?

For one thing, it would definitely bugged me, especially if i had contributed to the buying of Rhino related products.
