Babylon’s Ark

This book chronicles Lawrence Anthony’s brave journey in travelling to war-torn Kuwait just to save the animals in Baghdad Zoo. It describes his fear in realising that those animals were left to fend for themselves in the middle of the war’s crossfire which led to him setting off on a private rescue initiative.  The book thus depicts how he persuaded the U.S soldiers and the Iraqis to come together to save the zoo. It also recounts how he kept the animals and staff fed, and how international efforts helped in the zoo recovery.

At its conclusion, Anthony reflects on how this incident inspired the founding of The Earth Organisation. He had felt that life on Earth was dwindling due to the deterioration of the natural environment and thus, sought to protect it with new solutions that are designed for the creative and effective rehabilitation of Earth.

Before the launch, this book received positive reviews from Booklist and Kirkus Reviews for being “a book of remarkable merit”.
