Noise Mapping

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT?

Noise Mapping usually colour codes the severity and loudness of noise pollution. The red areas represent severe noise pollution, where the source of the noise usually lies and yellow areas represent moderate severity, where citizens may suffer from noise pollution indirectly. Noise mapping plays a huge role in the movement against noise pollution. They offer empirical data that can be used and studied so mitigation strategies can be implemented effectively. More elaborate noise maps even include the measurement of noise in decibels so relevant authorities can figure out whether the source of noise pollution is from an external source such as vehicles and machines or from the behavior of citizens. This allows mitigation strategies to be more efficient in terms of time and cost-effectiveness.
