Primary school zoo overnight camp!

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at my blog!

My name is Lim Mei Ling, and I am currently a 3rd year undergraduate majoring in Psychology in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). This blog was created for a module (HP3203 Conservation Psychology) offered by the University as part of the Psychology programme.

The words “Conservation Psychology” piqued my interest. After all, our general impression of Psychology is of therapists sitting with a patient on a low-lying chair, or of individuals whose actions we cannot seem to comprehend. How, then, does the 2 concepts of “conservation’ and “psychology” come together? Well, I have certainly learnt a lot throughout this semester and I would like to share some of my knowledge with you!

This blog is dedicated to explore and look at the conservation efforts by Wildlife Reserves Singapore, which is the organization that, among many other things, manages the Singapore Zoo. As a child, I always loved to visit the zoo. My interest for the zoo probably grew during a camp I attended back in Primary School. I was privileged to have the opportunity to stay overnight at the zoo, visit the animal hospital (we saw an injured komodo dragon!) as well as the animal mortuary. This experience changed my impression of the zoo. The zoo is not just a place for fun and entertainment, but is also an important place where these animals are protected and taken care of, and also a place of education.

So then, shall we take a closer look at the Singapore Zoo and the many other conservation efforts by Wildlife Reserves Singapore?
