Demographics

Outside of the People’s republic of China and Taiwan, Singapore has the highest proportion of Chinese citizens in South-east Asia, with 74.3% of Singaporeans being Chinese, as of 2017. Malaysia follows behind with 23.4% and Thailand at around 10.5%. While other countries such as Indonesia and Laos have a Chinese minority, the proportion of which they make up the population are usually less than 1%. But, while Singapore has a Chinese majority, Thailand actually has the largest population of overseas Chinese outside of China and Taiwan, due to an overall larger population in the country. This is also true for Malaysia and Indonesia.
