Many sessile organisms and critters such as barnacles, mussels and anemones attaches itself to its hard surface where they thrive and grow. Oyster gobies and blennies also uses its surface to lay their eggs in which the physical structure of the oyster shell can offer protection from predators. Oysters are also part of the food chain system that is commonly eaten by commercially imported fisheries such as crabs or striped bass. This can lead to a higher yield of seafood for fishermen.
The reef formation also attracts larger organisms like fishes, mollusks and mud crabs, which in turn attracts predators and even larger ones like the striped bass, creating a dynamic ecosystem environment.
