Lady Bird Johnson was born on 22 December 1912, in the city of Karnack, Texas. She was the youngest daughter of a wealthy businessman, Thomas Jefferson Taylor, and his wife, Minnie Lee Pattillo. Having looked to be “as purty as a lady bird”, Lady Bird Johnson was given the nickname “Lady Bird” by her nanny, and this name stuck with her ever since. After her mother’s passing due to complications resulted from miscarriage when Lady Bird Johnson was only five years old, Lady Bird Johnson was largely brought up by her aunt, Effie Pattillo, to be a shy and demure girl who found comfort in nature.

Lady Bird Johnson excelled academically throughout her school life. Apart from graduating as third from her class at Marshall Senior High School, she also attained two bachelor degree from the University of Texas at Austin in two consecutive years, with an honors in History, and journalism degree.

She was also actively involved in multiple organisations during college, such as the Texas Orange Jackets, a honorary service organisation that is committed to the excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and community. The involvements and exposures to different organisation had contributed to the development of her confidence and outspokenness, which was served to be of great use especially when she enter into politics because of her husband.
