1930s to 1940s

From the late 1930s to 1940s, Jacques Cousteau, Philippe Tailliez and Frédéric Dumas spent countless days on the beach of Le Mourillon, Toulon, trying out and perfecting different versions of what would be known as the Aqualung. It is also here, on this beach, where the three successfully completed their first underwater film Par dix-huit mètres de fond (18 meters deep).

It is also during this period when Cousteau married his wife and welcomed the arrival of their children.
