Negative assumption on efficacy

“Non-natural cleaning products have more chemicals. That’s why it works better.”

First of all we need to describe how clean is ‘clean’. Nowadays, people are looking for ‘strikingly clean’ clean. And they perceive certain things as indicators. Floors, for instance, have to be shiny for people to consider them clean. Unscented products are also more likely to receive complaints. Customers fail to smell the sharp odor of chlorine or the sweet scent of freshness from these products while they often rely on it to determine cleanliness. However, these fragrant smells, no matter how natural their name may sound, are actually chemically produced and may cause health risks.

We need to keep in mind that the reason we do cleaning is to keep our bodies healthy. Ironically, we are constantly exposed to the chemicals in cleaning products that our plan actually backfires. Not only these chemicals are hazardous to the environment, but they can also cause headaches, asthma, burns, permanent eye damage, and even cancer.

Many have also been questioning the disinfectant property of natural cleaning products. In fact, disinfectant is not a really essential product. We know that bacteria can become resistant to antibacterial agents and therefore using disinfectant too often may cause this to happen. There are, of course, some instances where disinfectants are necessary, i.e. in a hospital when dealing with contagious diseases, but constant use of it is definitely not recommended.

Ultimately around 90% of conventional cleaning products we are using now can be replaced with greener ones. The other 10% are used in hospitals to disinfect tools before operations. Therefore, the truth is that most natural cleaners work really well in daily life. It is just the matter of perception.

More reasons people skip green cleaning…
