What can we as individuals do to help the IAS problem?

Effectively targeting the problem of IAS typically involves 4 aspects of prevention, early detection, eradication, and control; prevention typically involves preventing the entry of IAS into a country, early detection involves locating IAS and preventing the spread of it through eradication, eradication involves complete removal of the entire population of IAS and control involving a long-term management program to control the spread of IAS.

Prevention is of utmost importance in IAS management and must be given high priority. Prevention is most effective in the management of IAS and is the least expensive among other management strategies of eradication and control which incurs high costs and is likely to be ineffective. Other than governmental efforts in preventing the introduction of IAS into the country, the public can also play its part in effectively preventing the entrance of IAS.

Encouraging the public to play an active part in preventing the introduction of IAS into the country can be done through various methods. It is to be noted that educating the public through providing information alone is not sufficient and various methods have to be taken into consideration to effectively target the problem of IAS.

These methods include education, videos, reminders and prompts and public commitment.
