Limiting Population Growth

As identified under ‘Underlying Causes’, one of the significant factors contributing to the crisis of biodiversity in the Philippines is its rapidly burgeoning population growth. Another important step in helping to improve the environmental crisis in the Philippines is to limit human population growth. As explained under ‘Underlying Causes’, women are not well educated in practicing proper family planning methods and one of the fundamental approaches is to conduct mass programs on family planning nationwide, making this well-propagated all over the country through campaigns and posters.

Another more effective method would be to pass laws across the country similar to the population law enforcement policy in China (Source: Geography.about.com), where people are only allowed to have one child. This could be more effective than merely educating women on proper family planning as this will strictly ensure that population rate declines.

Through reducing population growth, poverty growth also declines and this can then help the government focus on other issues such as the environmental crisis instead of worrying over the rapid population growth and wondering how to sustain the lives of this increasing population.
