Lack of Environmental Concern

As mentioned earlier, Singaporeans’ concerns about the plans outlined in the Population White Paper were mostly about political, economic and social issues such as competition in getting jobs and housing, traffic congestion and their identity as a ‘Singaporean’. It makes me wonder on why there was a lack of concern from Singaporeans about the impacts that government’s plans, such as infrastuctural development, has on the environment.

Are Singaporeans not aware of the impacts that building of more houses, more facilities and more amenities have on their environment?

Or is it because Singaporeans just do not care about their environment?

This section attemps to understand and explain the lack of concern that Singaporeans have for their environment using the concept of prospect theory and availability heuristics.
