Awards

In 1990, Goodall was awarded with the Kyoto Prize for Basic Science. The Kyoto Prize is Japan’s highest private award for global achievement, and is given to those who have contributed to improving mankind with their work.

Then in 1995, Goodall was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement was awarded to Goodall in 1997 because her Gombe Stream research laid the foundations for future primate studies. The Tyler Prize was set up for people to be “awarded for environmental science, environmental health, and energy conferring great benefit upon mankind”. Through her books and constant traveling, Goodall brought awareness and knowledge of environmental conservation to everyone.

Also in 2002, Goodall was named as a United Nations Messenger of Peace. She is one out of the three messengers who have served the United Nations for more than 10 years. Goodall continues to help the United Nations with their work on environmental issues and conservation.
