Integrated Coastal Management course (ICM)

In 2011, Mangroves for the Future (MFF), together with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) launched a Postgraduate Certificate Course on Integrated Coastal Management to aid nominated officials from various organisations to learn more about the relevant information, in hopes of allowing them to gain knowledge on how to build management plans and implement them effectively. That was the first Postgraduate Certificate Course being launched.

Several modules are included in the first course:

  1. Principles of Integrated Coastal Management
  2. Marine and Coastal Ecosystems
  3. Tools for Integrated Coastal Management
  4. Coastal Management and Evaluation

As part of the learning experience, students were able to attend seminars and sessions conducted by experts from the various organisations based in Thailand, as the course was be conducted for 5 weeks, from 2 September 2011 to 8 October 2011, in the AIT campus in Pathumthani, 40km north of Bangkok. Students will also have to complete a project where they use their learned knowledge to aid their home country, while being supervised by the AIT officials. Upon completion of the course, they received certificates from AIT.

The course is carried out yearly, with different nominees from the participating countries, focusing on different modules in the syllabus so that each course participants can contribute in different ways after successful completion on the course.
