Self-Efficacy

Self-efficacy is a person’s perception of his/her own ability to complete an action. Bandura (1977) suggested that this factor affects a person’s ability and motivation to complete the task.

Just the belief that a person is able to complete a task will lead to the person carrying out the task. The rural community living in the coastal regions of Vietnam might have low self-efficacy as it is common to think that just one small act would not have any effect on the environment, resulting in them not doing anything that is environmentally friendly.

Linking to the Knowledge factor, providing knowledge about behavioral choices will increase one’s perception about their ability to contribute to creating a sustainable environment.
