Educational

The Zoo plays a role in educational outreach to the public. It provides enrichment programmes in schools and also within the parks ground. The zoo can help to educate the public what is expected of them in the wild, even from young. These educational programmes includes day and night camps, behind-the-scene tours and workshops. For example, under a school programme, young children are taught about the animals’ body covering and their adaption methods. Through an activity called “Touch and Feel” they will be able to learn more from the interactions and satisfy their curiosity as compared to learning these information merely form the textbooks.

Besides the younger generation, the zoo also provides teachers workshops. These workshops are designed to specifically cater to the needs of the educators. The workshops teach the teachers on how to utilize the zoo as a resource in teaching their students about wildlife. It helps to train the teachers to be more knowledgeable in this field so as to pass on these knowledge to their students.

Publications

Working together with publication companies and retired teachers, the zoo has its own range of resource books and activity books that can be used to educate our younger generation about wildlife and conservation issues. These books can be purchased or used in schools by teachers. It also has its own quarterly magazine, Wildlife Wonders. It brings readers on an exciting journey to discover the interesting facts about wildlife.
