Food

When you hear or see the word organic, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Organic food. That is what immediately comes to my mind when I think of the word organic. If I had to guess, I would say that is the first thing that came to your mind too when you saw the word organic. That, or organic cafes. Either way – it still has to do with matters of the tummy.

This is extremely common, it is afterall the most commonly known element of an organic lifestyle today. Everywhere we go, we are hearing more and more about the latest organic meal, which grocer offers the freshest organic produce, where one can get the lowest-calories organic meal paired with the finest organic juices or organic coffee mixes. The list goes on!

Now if you are here, you most probably are keen on finding out how more knowledge on organic food can help you take that step further in achieving an organic lifestyle. It is much too expensive and utterly ridiculous for you to clear out your refrigerator and purchase an entire kitchen full of organic food in one day. Slowly but surely, you will get there.

WHY SHOULD I SWITCH TO ORGANIC FOOD?

Good question. If you do not wish to follow the latest trend of going organic blindly, let me convince you why this trend is something you will not want to get off for the rest of your life.

“You are what you eat”

Better nutrition, better flavour, fresher ingredients, less exposed to harmful toxic substances, all natural goodness that goes in you.

You can start by firstly, prioritising which kind of foods you and your family members eat the most. It is these foods which you should try your utmost best to ensure you are getting only the freshest organic ones. There are items that are of greatest concern; the most contaminated fruits and vegetables in which a lot of pesticide is used. They are:

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet bell peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Lettuce
  • Grapes
  • Pears
  • Spinach
  • Potatoes

From the lot above, I had already noticed more than five of them are some of my favourite foods! The items in the list are the ones you should ensure you buy only the organic choices.

Now on the other hand, there are also some of the least contaminated fruits and vegetables which means that they contain little to no amount of pesticide residue. They are:

  • Onions
  • Avocados
  • Sweet corn
  • Pineapples
  • Mangoes
  • Asparagus
  • Sweet peas
  • Kiwi fruit
  • Bananas
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Eggplant
  • Papaya

These are some food items that if no organic choices are available, the conventional choices offered are relatively safe enough to consume. But be sure to always opt for organic food as your first choice if available to you, and if within your means. Let eating healthy be the first step you take in working towards an organic lifestyle!
