Why would anyone kill elephants?

Animals that are perceived as pests are being killed deliberately in many countries like India. These animals, which are viewed as “problem animals” are either killed either illegally or legally, by private individuals or local and national governments. Of the plethora of examples, the Asian elephants in India would perfectly depict the aforementioned tragedy. In India, farmers may deliberately modify power lines to kill Asian elephants, which destroy their crops or ambush explosives in jackfruit baits (Menon et al., 1998).
