Threats:

  • Deforestation
    Trees are being cleared from logging and for agricultural purposes.
  • Habitat loss
  • Domestication
  • Human-elephant conflict
  • Ivory poaching
  • Bombing and poisonings

Conservation Measures:

  • National Elephant Action Plan (NEAP) allows for creation of elephant protection in Vietnam provinces. These habitats are meant to create the optimal conditions for the long-term survival of elephants. Furthermore, a system of electric fences and trenches are being put in place to reduce human-elephant conflict. NEAP includes education and awareness to garner support from the Vietnamese people too (Elephants in Vietnam, n.d.).
