Address issue of overharvesting and illegal trade

Most people capitalize on sea turtles for the quick and easy money. Thus, depending on selling sea turtle related items, they get additional income. To prevent over-exploitation, WWF came up with a few approaches:

• WWF works together with the local community to come up with other options such as providing training and programs for people to upgrade their skills for better employment opportunities in hope of minimizing poaching activities.
• Training has been provided to local rangers to safeguard the beaches where turtles usually nest and keep poachers away. A program called TRAFFIC is put in place to track and watch against illegal trading.  Under this program, there are campaigns to raise awareness, training for the officials and opportunities to advocate the conservation of sea turtles, especially in areas where the trading takes place frequently or in large numbers.
