Conservation Strategies

Conservation is a global issue. Although at multiple levels, there is a limit to how much one individual, organisation or state can do, therefore, is it necessary for many different countries to work towards achieving the same goal. Ideally, the aim of the conservation strategies is not only to find solutions to protect the turtles but also to manage the population such that they can sustain without the help of humans. There have been many interventions in place to protect the sea turtles.

Conservation goals

Humans are the main cause of the many threats that sea turtle face. We can make changes to rectify the problems. However it will not be an easy feat to change human behaviors and attitudes. We start by forming conservation goals, they include:

Close encounter

  • Investigation on illegal trading of the turtles and related products and enforcing regulations to deter such actions
  • Reducing interference to the nesting beaches by changing the bulbs in buildings near the beach and minimizing human footprint on beaches
  • Implement laws to stop dumping waste and pollutants into the waters
  • Tracking and observing the turtles to maximize conservation efforts
  • Providing relevant information and educating the public on conservation efforts
