SEA TURTLE CONSERVATION

State and local protection

Sea turtles are not commonly found in all parts of the world. In places where they are more frequently seen, state laws have been implemented to protect the turtles.

Particularly for Florida where there is a greater population of sea turtles, the state has implemented the Marine Turtle Protection Act. There are also laws in place to control light intensity such that it does not affect the turtles. Beaches that are too brightly lit will seem like the horizon to the turtles so when hatchlings hatched from the eggs, instead of heading towards the waters, they may waddle further up on shore where they may face greater danger.
