Venice

Venice is also sinking as well. Surrounded by water, it seems kind of expected. However, the real reason it is sinking is because it was developed on marshland; filled with soft soil. In addition to that, due to its surrounding waters having unsuitable water for consumption – as their waste water is directly introduced into it; they had to depend on groundwater extraction for a long time. This in turn increases the rate that they are subsiding at.

Like Tokyo, they put a stop to groundwater extraction. Now they have worries over whether their new water supply would be enough for their city; since they can only depend, for now on water from mainland Italy. Additionally, they could look at water treatment methods as alternative sources of water.

An extra bit of info here; even now, any sudden major increase to a building’s weight have a very high chance of causing it to sink substantially. Now, there are quite a few problems that Venice would have to look into for the future.
