Along with mass tourism comes mass pollution. There are two main culprits involved in this problem:

The first group of culprits are (obviously) the tourists. As passing visitors, tourists often feel no sense of belonging to their holiday destination. As such, they feel significantly less pressure to dispose of their waste responsibly. Given that Bali receives tourists in such big numbers, littering, which seems small at an individual level, becomes a huge problem.

The second group of culprits is the tourism sector of the host country. Improper waste disposal from hotels and villas contribute to a big proportion of the pollution problem on the island. The mindset focused on earning big profits from tourism result in many companies cutting corners in order to reduce their costs.
