ABC Waters Programme

Launched in 2006, Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme is an initiative by PUB to transform Singapore’s waterways into beautiful streams, rivers, and lakes that are closer to home. Although the ABC Waters projects can help to improve water quality by treating rainwater runoff before it flows into the water catchment areas, there is a more meaningful intention behind it. By creating recreational spaces around water, PUB hopes to inspire Singaporeans to be more appreciative of our water resource and be responsible for keeping it clean. Learning trials are also conducted to engage and educate students.

If you have been to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park, you probably have noticed people dipping their feet into a stream. But you may not know that the stream was actually converted from a concrete canal in the upper reach of the Kallang River. Today, this iconic ABC Waters project has become a habitat for a variety of birds, dragonflies, and even otters! It is also a popular spot for parents to expose their children to nature.

Currently, 24 ABC Waters projects have been completed but more will be implemented island-wide in phases to benefit more people.
