We are all familiar with blue and white-collar jobs but have you heard about green-collar jobs? You might have guessed it from the color term, green-collar jobs are basically those that deal with environmental sustainability. Some examples are environmental engineer, process engineer, and social responsibility manager. 

With increasing environmental consciousness on a global level, the green industry will soon be a big contributor to our economy. In order to prepare a skilled workforce for this growing industry, 16 Singapore institutions have offered a variety of environmental courses. Economic Development Board (EDB)’s director of cleantech, Mr Goh, has also noticed that more youths are expressing interest in working in the green industry.

Here are some of the more popular environmental courses:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Engineering Science) specialising in Energy Systems (NUS)

  • Master of Engineering (M.Eng) in Civil and Environmental Engineering – Environmental and Water Resources (NTU)

  • Environmental Control Officer’s Course (SP)
