Communication and Information Library
January 2009 – RFID Book Drop
Previously ACRC did not have an attached 24-hour book drop. During the Dec 2008 renovation, we made use of the opportunity to create one. It is a 3M RFID 24-hour book drop system.
January 2009 – Completion of Renovation
Library staff worked closely with the Office of Facilities and Planning Management and a team of contractors during the renovation period. As all the on-site works have to be done within December 2008, work and communications on various aspects of the project were immensely intensive. Finally, thanks to the hard work of all team members, the renovation of ACRC is finally completed in early January 2009 and is ready for operation for the new term.
December 2008 – Start of Renovation
The renovation of ACRC began on 1 Dec 2008. Many of the old furniture had to be dismantled and removed to make way for new ones. The counter was one of them. The colour theme of the newly renovated place is white, black, silver and some red. The expected completion date of the renovation is end of December 2008.
October-November 2008 – Design Details Iteration
The Library worked closely with the Office of Facilities and Planning Management and a team of contractors on the design details, logistics and work schedule for the renovation project. It is a great challenge to have to start and complete the on-site works within the December 2008 vacation. Despite this, we still hope to achieve the desired outcomes of the project within the targeted timeline so as to minimize any inconvenience to ACRC users.
July 2008 – Design Brief for ACRC Phase III Renovation
Similar to any other Library renovation or building projects, a new design brief was written and submitted by the Library to the Office of Facilities and Planning Management. This design brief contains a broad concept plan and guide for the interior design and layout of ACRC. This plan describes the main zones in the Library and specify the activities, equipment and furniture within each zone.
June 2008 – Plans for ACRC Phase III Renovation
The Library is planning to renovate ACRC at the end of 2008. The objective of the renovation is to create a better and more conducive learning environment for the users and to better utilize the limited space of ACRC with more innovative and space-saving furnishing and furniture. The Library also hopes to achieve a more modern, fun and clean look after the renovation.
December 2007 – Shelving Expansion
The shelving capacity in ACRC was increased by 25% in December 2007 when new shelves were added to the existing ones. New end panels and call number signages were also added for all new and existing bookshelves to create a more pleasant environment for ACRC users.
July 2007 – Expansion of Library staff office
The staff area was expanded in July 2007 to provide space for ACRC staff. After the expansion a total of 4 staff cubicles and a discussion area were created.
