[No] silence please

shh In her article entitled “Didn’t hear it coming”, Sarah Simpson reported in the Scientific American; Aug2008, Vol. 299 Issue 2, p22-24, about hybrid gas-electric vehicles  being too quiet and ideas to equip these cars with sound-emitting devices to warn pedestrians.

In recent Asian developments, the Chosun Ilbo reported that Japanese government will require electric cars to install artificial noise-makers as they are feared to be “too quiet for safety”, see articleStudies in this area raise safety concerns for the visually impaired from too silent traffic noise suggesting a re-learning of environmental noise at the basic level if environmental efforts are to continue.
