Engineering Innovation & Design Open House & Competition 2014

Engineering Innovation and Design (EID) course is an integral part of the second-year MAE curriculum. The course enables students to experience some of the practical learning in preparation for an engineering or technopreneur career. Students propose team-based projects under the guidance of mentors.
This year the Engineering Innovation & Design Open House & Competition was on Saturday 17th May 2014 at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

F1000 – Database

A new  Database  F1000 is now available for all NTU staffs and students.

Faculty of 1000 (F1000) identifies and recommends the important articles in biomedical research publications. Articles are selected by a peer-nominated global ‘Faculty’ of the  leading scientists and clinicians who then rate them and explain their importance.

Launched in 2002, F1000 was conceived as a collaboration of 1000 international Faculty Members.

Faculty Members and article recommendations are organized into over 40 Faculties (subjects), which are further subdivided into over 300 Sections.

Wind Energy – Journal

A new Journal, Wind Energy is now available for all NTU staffs and students.

The  Wind Energy journal is an  International Journal for Progress and Applications in Wind Power Conversion Technology. This journal  offers a major forum for the reporting of advances in this rapidly developing technology with the goal of realising the world-wide potential to harness clean energy from the wind. The journal aims to reach all those with an interest in this field from academic research, industrial development through to practical applications, including individual wind turbines, wind farms and integration of wind power plants. Contributions across the spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines concerned with the advancement of wind power conversion, integration and utilisation technologies are an essential feature of the journal.

Topics covered

Wind rotor technology – aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, wakes, blade design.

Structural and mechanical engineering of wind power – drive trains, hydraulics, fluid mechanics and mechanical components.

Electrical engineering of wind power – electrical components, power electronics and controls, generators, grid connection, power transmission and distribution.

Dynamics and control – materials, fatigue, testing, reliability and certification.

Resource assessment – prediction, modelling, wind farm planning, siting (including off-shore developments), economics and environmental issues.

Systems – design, installation, operation, performance, optimisation and control; small, hybrid and autonomous systems and applications other than grid connection such as desalination, water pumping and heating.
