Hear directly from an academic publisher on a brief overview of the publishing program and how to negotiate your first book contract.The talk will cover:
- Some of the common clauses such as rights, royalties, free copies, deadlines, permissions – which are used in the publishing agreements of academic books.
- Tips for first-time authors who are negotiating their first publishing contracts, or are expected to receive such an offer in the future.
- Academic book publishing, which differs from trade books or fiction as they have different business models.

Joe Ng commissions research publications in law, economics, finance, business and management, and public policy. He
also supports the scale-up of the Press’ textbook publishing program in Asia for advanced undergraduate and
postgraduate courses in the social sciences. Previously, he worked in the roles of editorial development, book and journal production for international commercial publishers, such as Cengage/Gale, Wiley-Blackwell, and Pearson.
