The face of research and the way research findings are communicated are changing rapidly. What do University Administrators, Researchers and Research Institutions need to know about these changes so that they can better plan, respond and manage research teams?

Dr. Terheggen will explore how research article and communication has changed and what can be done in view of these changes so that the research community can better manage institutional knowledge, competitively obtain grants and attract and retain research talent.

Some of the areas Dr. Terheggen will address are:

  • key challenges faced by researchers on accessing research funding
  • importance of data interpretation, data integrity, normalization and further data analysis in the face of new research publishing landscape
  • importance of establishing strategic collaboration between research groups
  • managing research commercialization – generation of patents, industry collaboration & spin-offs
  • addressing impact of research to society and measuring the contribution of your research article in the changing landscape
  • changing role of publishers in the new environment
  • importance for researchers to establish and expand your global impact in the respective research field.

About the speaker: Philippe Terheggen PhD, Managing Director, is heading up journal publishing at Elsevier. Originally a biomedical scientist, he has an international background in book and journal publishing, marketing and product innovation. Philippe is married to an immunologist and has 2 children. He serves at the STM Board of the Dutch Publishers Association and at the board of Publishers International Linking Association, a not-for-profit membership organization.
