Introduction :
In the collection of Contemporary Asian American Communities, this book contains 15 essays which cover a wide range of topic, mainly can be divided into three categories: I) Communities in Transition – spaces and practices; 2) Communities in Transformation – Identities and generations; and 3) Communities of Alternative – Representations and Politics. Writing from a variety of perspectives, the contributors expand the concept of community to include sites not necessarily bounded by spaces; formations around gender, class, sexuality, and generation reveal new processes as well as the demographic diversity of today’s Asian American population. This collection of essays forcefully put forward the statement that it is time to replace the outworn concept of a monolithic Asian America. This book will be of good reference to scholars of Asian American Studies, Sociology and Racial studies.
