Introduction :
To look into the oppotunities and problems brought by the 1965 passage of new law giving chance for up to 20,000 Chinese to emigrate to America and the subsequences, this book analyses papers presented befroe the 16th Annual Conference of the American Association of Teachers of Chinese Language and Culture to show the historical and interracial relationships. Devided into three parts: problems of Chinese communities in America, Chinese intellectuals in America, and teaching Chinese to school-age Chinse children in America, it illustrates the thinking of the conference and complement on some inter-community relationships.
