It records a total of more than 1200 titles of textbooks and related study and teaching materials that were used in Mainland China and Chinese schools in Southeast Asian countries during the twentieth century.
You can search by title, author, or subject. Alternatively, you can browse the whole collection by author, year, content level, subject heading, keyword, and place of publication.

为什么取名上海书局?
一个人们经常提起的问题是“上海书局”是不是最初在上海创办的?若不是,那它创立在新加坡,为什么取名为“上海书局”?这也曾经是我觉得好奇的问题,也曾就此问过父亲。他并没有给我一个非常完整的答案,只是约略笼统地把创立的经过说了一些,以下就是他所说的。
先父陈岳书年轻的时侯,是上海“三友实业社”的职员。这是一家由三位爱国人士,抱着以‘提倡中国货,对抗洋货和日货,通过办实业救国’为宗旨的营业机构。“三友实业社”不但自身办厂生产制造中国货,也积极推销他人生产的中国货。为扩大中国货销售的范围,先父便受命带着中国货的样品,南下到暹罗(现今的泰国)、经马来半岛、新加坡,最后到印度尼西亚的棉兰等地,接收订单,推销介绍中国货。
当年每次出差是由上海先乘船到暹罗,然后经陆路南下新、马各地,才由梹城渡过马六甲海峡到棉兰,再由原路回上海(听老一辈说,这条路线叫作下荷兰,因为当年印尼是荷兰的殖民地,另外有一条到菲律宾推销的路线则称为下呂宋)。每趟来回总得花上三几个月。当年海外的商务印书馆和中华书局只卖本版图书,不卖外版书籍,其他南洋一带的华文书店,不仅很少,规模也很小,而且贩卖的书籍也以文言文的线装书为主。 Continue reading 与上海书局有关的点点滴滴(转载)
