Professor Jesvin Yeo’s research interests include cultural value, human experience and behaviour, and their applications in cultural heritage, education, and wellbeing. She investigates new ways to ignite and refine insight and addresses people’s needs through bold, optimistic design. In the field of cultural heritage, she engages with traditional artisans and local communities, researching century-old buildings to develop design innovations. In the area of wellbeing, she employs design research methods to explore applied design across various disciplines, integrating functional, emotional, and social aspects to address real needs.
Prof Jesvin is the esteemed author of nine books on cultural heritage, including “Forgotten Heritage: Uncovering Singapore’s Traditional Chinese Puppets,” “A Collection of Singapore’s Fading Traditional Crafts and Trades,” “Vanishing Crafts,” and “Architectural Decorations: Negotiating Symbols Across Time and Place.” Her research, demonstrating her expertise, has been published internationally, featuring journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers on topics such as Singapore heritage and culture, material culture, wellbeing, design studies and education, typography, and book design.
Her culturally related creative works have been exhibited internationally, including at the Basel School of Design, the Berlin Communication Museum, the Centre Pompidou Shanghai (West Bund Museum), the Taiwan Design Museum, and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. Among the 80 international design awards she received are the prestigious Red Dot Award (Communication Design), GOOD DESIGN™ Award, and iF Communication Design Award.
Prof Jesvin Yeo, a graduate of Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (MA) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (PhD), brings extensive experience to her current role at the School of Art, Design and Media at Nanyang Technological University. Her professional journey includes positions at renowned MNC advertising agencies such as the Publicis Group, Young & Rubicam, and Ogilvy & Mather in Singapore and London. She currently holds several key positions, including Deputy Associate Provost (Strategy) at NTU, Director of the Board of Directors of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, President of the Singapore Society of Asian Studies, Chairman of the Innovation & Academic Excellence Committee (IAEC) of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and Scientific Board Member of the Human Factors in Communication of Design Scientific Board, USA.
