The Relationship between Multilingualism and Creativity from Adolescence to Adulthood
Past research has shown a positive relationship between multilingualism and creativity. Our research aims to investigate this relationship among both adolescents and adults in Singapore. We also investigate the potential moderating/mediating effects of other psycho-social factors on this relationship. We discuss how the two age groups of adolescents and adults are particularly important in understanding the relationship between multilingualism and creativity, particularly in Singapore, because past research has found that while Singaporeans score high on intelligence scores, we do not perform as highly on creativity scores. The explanation for this may lie in differences in levels of multilingualism and creative performance between adolescents and adults. We also provide implications for education in raising creativity among Singaporeans.
