Exciting coverage of our latest project, Prof Leodar – a Retrieval Augmented Generation Chatbot.
Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore has introduced Leodar, an AI-powered teaching assistant, to its data science and AI class. Created by Assistant Professor Leonard Ng and his team, Leodar uses generative AI to answer student queries around the clock, covering everything from administrative questions to complex course concepts. This innovation has significantly reduced the workload on human instructors, allowing them to focus more on developing teaching content and research. Moreover, Leodar’s implementation provides students with valuable experience in leveraging AI tools effectively and ethically, a skill increasingly sought after in today’s job market.
The rise of AI assistants like Leodar reflects a broader trend in the workplace, where AI skills are becoming essential across various industries. Job postings mentioning AI or generative AI have seen a significant increase globally, with Southeast Asia experiencing a 2.4 times rise in such job posts over the past two years. While AI is changing the nature of many jobs, experts emphasize that it’s not about replacing humans but rather augmenting human capabilities. As AI continues to evolve, the focus is shifting towards developing skills that complement AI, such as critical thinking, creative problem-solving, and emotional intelligence. This transformation underscores the growing need for continuous learning and adaptation in the AI-driven future of work and education.
