COVID-19 Statistics in China

To study the COVID-19 outbreak in China, an organized and complete dataset is necessary. However, we could not find any suitable dataset for our research in late February 2020. In this presentation, we will share how we extracted data and organized it to build our own dataset. In sharing this dataset, we hope it can help the international research communities better understand the spread dynamics of COVID-19 at a regional level, and to inform intervention and mitigation strategies for policymakers. We will also share some general tips on data sharing.

Data Sharing in Psychology

What are the benefits and challenges in sharing research data? In this talk, I will discuss the motivation and challenges of data sharing, and share my experiences in making developmental data available in an online repository. The focus will be on practices in psychological science, but the discussion will apply to other scientific disciplines.

The Future of Open Research: Policies, Platforms, and Priorities

Across the world, many public and private research funders, research performing institutions, governments or publishers are establishing full open research policies. The shift toward a system of research and scholarship that is open by default is well underway. The questions we now must grapple with are what will that system look like and whose interests will be prioritized. This talk will explore the drivers of this shift toward open research, cover the most important recent developments, and discuss the implications for the future of scholarship.

Building Open Scholarship in Developing Research Cultures

While open scholarship has been highlighted in many mature research cultures, the approach, journey, and situation is different in developing research cultures. In this talk, I discuss the role of government, institutions, and research culture in shaping the adoption of open scholarship in parts of Asia, Africa and Latin America, using Indonesia as a main example. Critically, I discuss the role all of us can play in building global open scholarship.
