ACS on Campus was held in NTU on 2nd of August this year. Jointly organised by the American Chemical Society and NTU Library, the 1-day event was held in the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and attracted over 90 participants. They were treated to a day of scientific lectures, tips on getting published, a poster competition in the afternoon as well as free popcorn and cotton candy!
What is ACS on Campus?
ACS on Campus is a worldwide initiative by the American Chemical Society to reach out to post graduate students, researchers, and early career professionals to have the ACS editors and experts share their tips and experiences in publishing and scientific communication. This year Nanyang Technological University was the only university in Singapore to host ACS on Campus. We were honoured to have speakers who flew in especially from the United States as well as our very own NTU professors speak at this event.

Poster Presentation
After a morning of scintillating scientific lectures and a panel discussion on Top Ten Tips for Scholarly Publishing where participants got to pick the brains of our invited ACS editors, we returned from lunch for a casual sharing session by Prof Weiss on industry expectations and tips on scientific communication. The other highlight in the afternoon was the poster presentations by participants. With our invited speakers as the judges, students did a short presentation in front of their posters and five presenters were awarded for their posters.
The winning poster was awarded to David Yeo for his poster on Biopsy-free Skin Diagnosis using Non-invasive Nanotechnology. Congratulations, David!

Thank you
We’d like to thank the American Chemical Society for co-organising this event with us and bringing back ACS on Campus to NTU after four years. The feedback from our participants shows that they had a very positive experience and found the event beneficial to their career and communicating research. We’d also like to thank all the speakers for taking the time to be here, sharing their knowledge and experience and paying it forward to the next generation of academics.
Finally, to all the participants in attendance, thank you for making this event a success! Thank you for attending despite the early hour, actively asking questions and engaging our speakers, and taking part in the poster presentation either as a presenter or by supporting your friends. We hope to see you again at future NTU Library events!
