Exhibition poster for Uniform to Casual Wear
The project conceptualises an exhibition of school uniforms as well as casual wear for girls and women in Singapore before and after World War II (1930s to 1960s). The collection displayed consists of a large percentage of photographs, and actual exhibits of clothes, fabrics, weaving tools, etc.
The circular pavilion includes two exhibition halls, two interactive zones where visitors can seek new creations from the collections and one creativity workshop. During the journey, visitors are able to discover the differences in fashion styles, materials and production methods of women’s clothing before and after World War II. Visitors also experience the cultural confluences in Singapore including influences from the US and get to understand women’s pursuit of fashion and growing awareness of personal independence at the time.
