Progress Report: Jun 13 – Jun 19

With all our groupmates back from overseas, we can start to make some solid progress for our project!

First Draft Presentation

Profs and lab staffs provided valuable suggestions for our project:

  1. Find substitutes for baking soda, since it is not soluble in water (Follow-up: baking soda is actually soluble. The lab staff that raised this concern confused it with calcium carbonate.)
  2. We need a better Gantt Chart and try coding/3D modelling when waiting for delivery
  3. Contact CBC lab for chemical safety issues & lab access for testing
  4. Insulate electronic parts from chemicals & liquids during testing
  5. (optional) consider using 1 stepper motor instead of 2 for moving laser module if there are synchronization issues
  6. Check with Tony for spare Arduino Mega
  7. Float should not react/contaminate the chemicals. Research on the materials to use.

Logistics

We have come up with a list of components to purchase. Xin Ru, our financial controller, will make the purchase and submit the claims for reimbursement.
