Another Day, Another Zoom Meet

On the electronics side, we noticed that the voltage varies when using a battery since it does not have a voltage regulator. We tried to use the voltage regulator from the boost converter but found it problematic, so we used a voltage regulator from a powerbank instead. We found that…Read More

The Wind

Arthur tested his new coil-less brush motors and found that it was as quiet as an ocean breeze. It was so quiet that Jin Feng and Jedidiah did not even notice that the motor and fan were turned on! With such an energy efficient motor, there was no need to…Read More

Noisy Blades

We did some acoustic testing for three blades and found that the blades we labelled as “best” and “not best” are relatively quiet, while “long boi”, the asymmetric fan, turned out to be pretty noisy, with a high percentage of low frequencies. From a video we referenced, an asymetric blade…Read More

A Trip To Sim Lim

Brushless motors have simply been too problematic, and quite frankly, we’re done with them. To recap, brushless motors require external driverboards which takes up more space. Electronic speed controllers (ESCs) require high voltage and generate noisy signals, which was unreliable for driving the brushless motor. Hence, Jin Feng and Arthur…Read More

Blade Work & Progress Report
Blade Work & Progress Report

After a tiring week of FOP, we’re back in business. We continued to find ways to optimise the fan blades and make them quieter. Taking inspiration from a zipline blade used to deliver medical supplies in Rwanda, Jedidiah designed three asymmetric blades with varying angles between blades, and found that…Read More

Battery Testing
Battery Testing

While everyone is busy with CNYang FOP, Arthur and Gabriel went to Sim Lim to source for electronics. Now we’re doing basic tests with a new battery.

Increased Air Velocity

Remember how we mentioned that the air at the outlet deflects to the left? Well, we took inspiration from garden leaf blowers and shifted our air outlet away from the center to accomodate for this. Our air velocity at outlet has now doubled to about 5 m/s!

Testing The Foggers
Testing The Foggers

Two days ago, we verified that pre-drying the air will increase the efficiency of cooling. We are now examining whether the foggers would not only solve our pump system, but improve our honeycomb setup as they could be a more effective medium for evaporative cooling compared to evaporative pads. Thus,…Read More

A Big Week!

The past week was pretty good, too. This entry is a long one, so grab some popcorn. We gave up on using a pump to deliver water to the evaporative cooling system, after some final failed attempts, and ordered the piezoelectric ultrasonic fogger. We also printed a silica cage to…Read More

No Longer Drinkable

We’ve decided to treat ourselves by removing the water bottle feature.
