3D Printing – Phase 3

In this phase, we focused on designing the parts required to house the Arduino Mega and mount the stepper motors within our pill dispenser.

Initially, the motor support was conceptualized as a solid triangular block (in red). We realized that there was wasted space, thus we redesigned it as an L-shaped support with a hollow trapezium (in black) such that it is more space efficient and can house the Arduino Mega. The centre hole within the wall of the motor support allows for the wires and sensors connected to the Arduino Mega to pass through the wall.

We redesigned the motor mount (in purple) with elongated holes for the screws such that small adjustments to the position of the motor mount (and the motor) can easily be made. This will facilitate the assembly of the entire pill dispenser as small adjustments can be made on the spot instead of having to reprint many of the 3D parts that have fixed heights or fixed angles.

Additionally, the motor shaft is designed as a cross, and the inner disc within the dispensing cup has a corresponding cross-shaped hole. This ensures that the inner disc stays securely locked in position as the motor shaft rotates.
